Flower dolls for Girls festival.

As I went in to the lobby, a big dolls for girl’s festival came into my view.
Absolutely, it will be next week. How time flies!
Already, the spring has come in to the next corner.
For an instant, I thought such a thing.
But, I took no notice about it, and I went in to the building to finish a job in a hurry.
For I was in a hurry.
After a while. As I went through the side of the big dolls on my way home again, the scent of the spring came into my nose.
Oh! It was a flower dolls! Spring had come!

A funny shrine (Itusen Daimyo-jin)

There is the funny shrine at the northeast of the Shijyo-Nawate intersection of Kyoto.
It is Gion.
Name is Itusen-Daimyojin shrine, and it seemed as an attraction of the restaurant of Itusen-yosyoku. I remember about Itusen-yosyoku. When I was a boy, a small sweet shop was in the each town. I think, it was the old convenience store for the children.
Almost all shops had a big hot plate, and the middle-aged lady baked the itusen-yosoku for the children. Probably, one piece was 10 yen. I used to go with the friends. My father said, as a boy, he used to go there too. He said, one piece was 0,01 yen equal 1 sen. Oh, the memories are 70 years ago or more aren’t it? I head, that is the history of the name of Itusen yosyoku. I visited the restaurant, because, as I reached front of there many itusen yosyoku on the hotplate came into my view. It seemed really delicious.
And several shadows of the visitor inside of the store came into my view too.
I was drawn into the restaurant.
Incidentally, the Itusen Yosyoku is the old style Okomoniyaki that is a thin, flat cake of unsweetened batter fried with various ingredients.
I heard; after the big war, the flour came from USA with the culture of the flat cake, as a food aid.
And large amount flour was sold through illegal channels to the black market; the rice was very expensive, people could not get it and people bought the cheap flour; as a result the flour culture was spread fast.

What! It was a fakes. A mannequin was! It was the ornament. It was the decoration. An atmosphere created my old happy memories, as I went in to the shop, it came into my mind. I stayed in my nostalgia for a while.
Of course, the Itusen-yosyoku was very delicious. You should drop in to the restaurant, if you visit Gion of Kyoto. You can get wonderful atmosphere and very good taste of the Itusen Yosyoku

Kiyamachi (plover paper lantern).

When going through a narrow stone-paved path, the red and white paper lanterns, which hang just in front of the house, come into our view. That is Ponto-cho, which is the downtown of Kyoto, west side of the Kamogawa River. It is the famous path, many restaurants, bars, and stores are on both sides. A plover pattern is drawn on the lantern; it is the sign of the Ponto-cho. And the Kusadango is the sign of the Gion. The lantern’s design is interesting, it shows us something at Kyoto. Culture, History, and life of the people. We can know many things. In other words, it wants to tell us something about Kyoto. You should check the paper lantern, if you come to Kyoto. We can say, it is one of the door of the Kyoto history.
I do not know why it is the plover design? If you know about it, please tell me the details.

The mountain priest (At Mibudera-temple)

Last week I visited a Mibudera temple on my way home from a Yasaka shrine. To take the photograph of a Noh farce was my purpose; they dedicate the Noh to drive out an evil spirit. It is very famous event in Kyoto, has long history. I guess, you have ever seen the photograph of it in a journal or on TV. It was my first visit to the Mibudera, though I had lived in Kyoto for a long time. I went toward the temple, had great expectation. In conclusion, I could not up the photograph of the Noh. As I reached inside of the garden, the big signboard came in to my view. It showed me, camera were forbidden, no one could take the photograph of Noh. Worse luck, a lot of people were making a line at the entrance of the place. Therefore I gave up to seeing the Noh. But, I could see the big fire by many mountain priests. They burned praying the last year good-luck charms, which were dedicated by people. And people bought new good-luck charm again; it is very good system to collect for the temple. Kyoto has many good places, the temple, the shrine and others. I want to take photograph of that, but I can not take the photograph these days. Unfortunately, the place, where camera was forbidden increased lately.

Maiko-san dedicated a dance in Yasaka Shrine ( Setubun ceremony)

mDSC00689.jpg

On February second day, I visited Yasaka Shrine again; February second day and third day were special day of Setubun. My purpose was to take a photograph of a maikosan(an apprentice geisha). They dedicate the dance to the god of the shrine and scatter parched beans to drive out .an evil spirit. They had three stages; the start time of the first stage of the ceremony was on 1 pm. I reached the main stage of the Yasaka shrine at noon, already many people were there, and of course they had a camera. I could not decide where place was best to take a photograph, in no time. As I looked around the garden, three positions came into my view. At first, the side of the way to a waiting room, next, the south side of the main stage; both points were not crowded, at last, the north side of the main stage; many people were waiting at north side already. I chose the point of the north side for some reason; I got a spot in the fourth row, though I could get the front row, if I got the position other points. It seemed that north side was best point, because many people gathered. And, I had to wait standing about one hour with, it was really tough work. But, when the maikosan arrived at the shrine, I felt uneasy. Because the entrance of the shrine was the south side, and then they headed to the waiting room. ; I could not see them from the north side clearly. I wavered in my judgment; the south side was best position to take a photo?
But I stayed at the north side, like other people. Finally, my decision was the right choice. The maikosan dedicated the dance to the god; the god was north of the shrine.
The maikosan almost danced facing to the north side; I guessed it was about 90%. After all, I could take many good photos from the best point. I think, big luck is coming to me!
