Today is the third of March, which is the Girl’s Festival, as you know. In other words, it is the day of the doll, which displayed at the Girl’s Festival. On last weekend, I remembered that there is the temple, which is famous about the doll in the Kyoto City. I lost no time in checking on the Internet about Ningyo-dera. I found the information that the temple would hold the spring event of Hinamasturi on Sunday. We can see inside of the temple only on the period of spring event and autumn special event. Usually they do not open inside of the temple to the public. Formal name of the Ningyo-dera is the Hosyoji temple、which is nunnery. The beginning of the name was that they have kept many dolls, which sent from Imperial family of Imperial princess who became a priestess. The doll was sent to princess from Imperial family. After that, the people began to put the doll in the temple for the repose of the doll’s soul. And, people began to call it Ningyo-dera before people knew.
It was really fine and warm day, my filling was very good. And then, the wind of spring tempted me to go there on Sunday morning,; I had never visited to inside of the temple, though I used to pass the temple, the event of the Hosyoji temple was two performances.
The stage was the main building hall, but it was very narrow, because the Hosyoji was the small temple. As the time of the performance came, many audiences filled the place.
At first, three persons played a Gagaku; they wore the old Japanese Kimono, which had atmosphere of the Heian period. Main event was the dance of the old Japanese style by the Shimabara-Taiyu. She put on the gorgeous kimono; the dance was really graceful, and really beautiful. How elegant it was! That’s right! It was the Japanese beauty.
Luckily, I could stand near the stage and I could take the photo of the performance, though many heads obstructed the stage. But, my foot got really tired, because I had to stand in a half-sitting posture, to open the view to the stage from the rear side. It was about one hour, waiting time was 40 minutes, and performance time was about 20 minutes. So before I could say beautiful dance and wonderful, the event ended. After that, I looked on the many old dolls at the deep inside of the temple. Unfortunately, we could take no photo of the dolls at the temple, except at entrance space. But, it was very happy day, for I could meet the Japanese traditional special beauty.
It was the Doll mound at the entrance of the Temple.
Several colorful umbrellas were dried at the entrance too, because the traditional umbrella shop was in front of the temple main gate. And you can buy the Japanese umbrella for souvenir
